Summer in a nutshell

So I have not been a blogger this summer...because I just didn't want to! We have been busy livin' instead of bloggin' which is a good thing, if you ask me :) So here is a little recap of some of our summer highlights...and lowlights.

I turned the big 28! Don't I look excited about it :) actually if you want to know the truth Rob snapped this picture of me while we were waiting to take family pictures, so that crazed look you see is me about to go ape! Two little boys hair done in clean cute outfits, trying to stay clean while waiting for the photographer at a park...with dirt and grass and rocks, and water, and me sweating, and threatening terrible things, and cleaning off muddy hands and shoes...anyway, this was just after I decided that it would be a better idea to wait inside the car...with them strapped... in their car seats...with the AC on full blast (which is why my hair is frizzed.) Just in case you were wondering.

Rob celebrated the big 31! And that hideous cake is his favorite HUGE chocolate cake...made with love...by Costco.

We celebrated 8 years of marital bliss together. But our real celebration is when we go on our cruise in October to the Bahamas! ALONE!!! that is unless I freak out and cancel it because I am certain I can't leave my babies.

The boys climbing trees...see that cutie patootie on the right? Well he should have come to earth sheathed in bubble wrap. Seriously. Injured his hip (while I was away at girls camp!) and couldn't walk for 2 weeks. (don't ever slide down a slide with your kids--my husband learned the hard way.) Cut his EYEBALL... on a book...WHAT??!! Fell and ripped his entire pinky nail off completely down past the cuticle!!Not to mention all the bonks and band aids in between. I am telling you every second of every day is a perilous journey for that little tank of a boy!

I ran a 1/2 marathon with my sis-in-law and LIVED!! Here we are in all our sweaty glory after the race!

Don't judge the looks, this is at the finish line...

My cute Gavin at Alpine days Rodeo doing the mutten bust. Really I have never laughed so hard in my life! I know it looks like child abuse or something but he really wanted to do it! and he won a cowboy boot cup full of gumballs! thats worth a little dirt in the face right??

The boys are getting to better friends, and better enemies :)

but I loves em anyway!

Headed down south and visited family in Vegas and St. George. Had to get a picture of the random HUGE chair in good old Beaver on the way down.

Enjoyed our weed patch, I mean garden :) Although it looks terrible, and every year I envision a Martha Stewart-esk garden of weed free, beauty and bounty. It always looks like crap, who has time to weed like mad man! Never judge a book by its cover- We get some fabulous produce from that little garden. And corn that could beat Harward Farms any day... hehe.

Lund Family Reunion...condensed...(really I did condense)

...at least our heads are turned in the general direction of the camera, for us that's pretty good...I'll take it!

We had a little family reunion here in Utah this last weekend, and it was SO FUN! the best part of being around home was being able to put my rootbeer chuggin', treat eaters down in their own beds at night...so that there was some amount of sleep being had. All my sibs and their kids came and we did a Lagoon day, we rode the sundance lift, we went to Thanksgiving Point Gardens, hung out in AF canyon, went swimming and BBQ'ed to our hearts content! Gavin and Ev had a blast with all their cousins. Here are some pics of the week, and I truly did try and condense them:)

Me and my big sis!

Gavin and cousin Ayva best buds

Lagoon rides...Gavin kept saying I want to stay here for the rest of my life!

Everett thinking he was hot stuff!

Who knew Bulgy the Whale would be so traumatizing...I certainly didn't see it coming

aaaaaannnd DONE :)

S-P-A-S-T-I-C!

Spazziness (it could be a word...) seems to play a prominent role in my life these days... (refer to an older post about a sad young woman and a jalapeno...) I was delving into some much needed yard work yesterday, taking advantage of the one day of spring that we have seen this year, the boys were enjoying worms and dirt and the sensation of sand being poured over each others heads; when the accident occurred.

I had filled my wheelbarrow to the brim with what we affectionately call poop dirt. Dirt mulch fertilizer stuff. I was about to tip the load into the garden bed when the strap on my three year old dollar flip flops snapped launching me sideways. Overcome with the load of poop dirt, I tipped, the wheel barrow falling on top of me pinning my leg and slicing my toe and apparently I had the good fortune of hitting the ground the exact time a bee of some kind was in the grass...yes I got stung on the leg as I hit the ground...I have the itching sting today to prove it! seriously who does this stuff, or maybe people do but they don't choose to blog about it, hmmm...anywho--

My sweet Gavin ran inside and brought me back all assortments of transformer band aids to help my bleeding toe, and sat there reassuring me that I would eventually be O.K. Then he says, "Mom, you should eat some cookie dough, that will make you feel all better." ME: "Hmmm that probably would make me feel better, good idea Gav." GAV: "I hurt my finger at Grandma Nash's house the other day and she said cookie dough makes everything feel better, and I ate some and I was all better mom!"

Thank goodness for cookie dough!

In the blink of an eye!

Everett went from this tiny baby...to this big one year old!

Ev turned the big 0 1 on Friday. We had a little party with Nash grandparents and Lund grandparents. We ate lunch at Pirate island(Gavins choice...) and took Everett to build a bear(also Gavins choice). Gav knows how to show his little bro a good time :)

My "ball" cake cause Ev is obsessed and that is pretty much the only word he says...ball, ball, ball ball ball!I made a red velvet cake thanks to good old Paula Dean (from the food network) Never have tried it before, but it was pretty good.

Ev with a smirk spreading to his face as he got his chubby little fingers in there and started squishin.

OH YEAH, that's my boy!

YUMMY!
We love Ev, he is such a sweetie you just can't not pick him up and squeeze him, Happy Birthday little Dude!

Sit still and let me take your picture!

Me: "You guys look so cute sit there and let me take your picture really quick...pleeeease look at me, ya me with this big camera here!"

Me: "Cute, hey Gav, Put your arm around Ev and scooch closer to him."

Gav: "I am pretty sure my mom just gave me permission to put Ev in a head lock...NICE!"
Ev: "What the..."
Gav:"How's that for a little brotherly love :)"
Ev: "I'm outta here."
Me: "O.K we're done here..."

Holy JALAPENO Batman!

Last night I was preparing for my YW activity and I was rushing around getting everything ready. Feeling very domestic, I was making some soup for dinner, as I was also on the phone planning a dinner group time. I was feeling like quite the multi-tasker mom.

It was about five o'clock which for my children is what I like to call "the witching hour" A PHRASE MY SISTER USED. That is when something in the air changes and all things mischievous begin, and screaming and wailing and... well you get the idea.

My vegetables were sauteing and I was cutting up a jalapeno to add to the pot. I was chatting away and de-seeding the pepper, when I paused and absentmindedly touched the end of my nose. I continued to talk to my friend when a burning sensation began to slowly take precedence on the tip of my nose. I thought nothing of it until, my eyes began to water, I told my friend that I would call her back. The burning continued to get worse. Not thinking I rubbed it again to ease the pain with my unwashed pepper slicing hand...then I realized what I had just done. The burning then spread to the other side of my nose and crept up into my nostrils and onto my top lip. I was on FIRE! I had to do something fast. I washed my hands with soap and water as tears and snot (sorry if TMI) began streaming out of my eyes and nose.

I have birthed two children and I like to think I have a pretty high pain tolerance, so believe me when I say that this was some intense pain, not just an "oh, wow I just ate some spicy pepper kind of hot."

I dialed my sisters number to ask her what to do. She immediately googled and started rattling off all the remedies she was reading, including the fact that some people said they went to the extent of dialing 911 and that it took hours for the pain to go away...um, (thanks sis). So meanwhile my children are screaming, and Gavin has Everett in some kind of scissor kick hold. I am frantically applying mud masks, alcohol rubs and baking soda wet packs to my face. I am yelling at Gavin to go to his room. Finally looking like some kind of dripping zombie with white ooze coming off my face from the baking soda mask, my children realized something bad was happening.

My sister said she was on her way over. Feeling somewhat relieved I turned around just in time to see Everett on the kitchen floor having just put something small and green into his mouth! I panicked, He let out a scream that could deafen, and I grabbed the thing out of his hand then for some stupid reason touched it to my own mouth to see if it was indeed the dreaded jalapeno. it was.

So now my mouth is on fire as well as my face my 9 month old is screaming and rubbing his increasingly reddening mouth. He is looking at me horrified at both the pain in his mouth and my own monster like face (still had all the baking soda on it):)

Long story short, about an hour and a half later his pain subsided as did his poor red face, I found that the remedy for jalapeno burns is a milk and baking soda wet pack applied many-many times to dry out the jalapeno oils.

I have used jalapenos many times and NEVER had anything like this happen. My sisters friend who is from Mexico and grew up growing and using jalapenos said she never cuts them without gloves...lesson learned. BEWARE THE JALAPENO my friends!
